MIM (metal injection molding) process, which is a new type of metal part forming process combining modern plastic injection molding process and powdered metal process. This new process appeared in the late 1970s and was originally mainly used to manufacture light weapons parts. This time I will introduces several MIM metal injection molding parts for weapons.

First MIM parts: Electronic packaging MIM parts. This part is formed by MIM (Metal Injection Molding) technology and formed by F15 grade components (Ni-Co-Fe); the tolerance of the hole is plus or minus 0.2mm. This metal injection molding product is used for Opto-electronic packaging. One of the requirements is that the expansion curve of the material must be similar to that of the sealed glass.

The customer’s focus is on testing the sealing performance of the MIM electronic enclosure after the parts are subjected to thermal shock. This part replaces the products made by cutting and brazing. MIM parts can greatly reduce production costs than parts manufactured by cutting.

 

SECOND MIM parts: The dimensional tolerance of the injection molding machine stainless steel parts of the rifle rear night vision device is 0.5%. The injection material used is a thermoplastic binder and an iron-7% nickel alloy. The density of the sintered body reaches 7.82 per square centimeter. The mechanical properties specified in the technical conditions are: tensile strength 430MPa, yield strength 295MPa, hardness 55HRC (after carburizing and quenching), and modulus of elasticity 203GPa.

This part manufactured by the mim metal injection molding  process was previously produced by cutting. In view of the complicated shape of the part and the holes located in different directions, cutting is expensive. The night vision device is used for the M-6 rifle. Due to the use of the MIM process, the price of the parts can be reduced by 60%. Except for carburizing and quenching, no surface treatment is required.
